Famous cuisine here is called “Kaiseki”. It’s a traditional course lunch or dinner. Having Kaiseki, it’s like enjoying art. It served with good balance of tastes, appearance, variety of colorful potions. Kawayuka, traditional outside wood decks overlooking along the Kamo river, became the typical and elegance style to spend summer.
There are many traditional and modern type of shopping streets in Kyoto. Nishiki market is famous for food. About 130 shops are inside of arcade street. You can have a good understanding of the food culture there. There are lots of souvenir shops at Sanjo, Tera-machi, Shingyogoku street. Monthly antique market is held in Toji temple and free market in Kitano-Tenmangu shrine.
